TIABC Responds to Report on Vancouver’s Struggling Festival Landscape

In an interview with the Vancouver Sun last week, TIABC Policy Director Cassandra Zerebeski advised that most of Vancouver’s major festivals are run by non-profit organizations with small staffs and volunteer boards, and that securing consistent, long-term funding has been a longstanding challenge, with many festivals operating on very limited budgets and an aging volunteer base. She also noted that despite the significant economic benefits these events bring by attracting visitors who stay longer and spend locally, festival organizers themselves rarely see a financial return.
